Hermes Assistant
A private email and calendar assistant operated by Home and Range LLC.
Hermes Assistant is not a public product and has no sign-up. It is a personal
automation, run by and for the business owner of Home and Range LLC (Ojai Brush Guy, Ventura
County, California). It reads the owner's own mailbox and calendar through Google's APIs and does
the routine sorting work he would otherwise do by hand each morning.
What it does
- Reads incoming mail using Gmail message metadata and short snippets: sender, subject, labels,
the list-unsubscribe headers, and whether a message carries an attachment.
- Sorts each message into one of four tiers: work inquiries and leads, obligations such as
invoices and appointments, people worth a human glance, and routine promotional mail.
- Moves routine promotional mail to the Gmail Trash. Nothing is ever permanently
deleted by the assistant.
- Requests unsubscribe from senders that publish an RFC 8058 one-click unsubscribe
endpoint, by calling the sender's own URL. It never sends mail on the owner's behalf.
- Reads the owner's primary calendar and creates events for appointments stated in a message,
such as a flight lesson or a dental appointment.
- Emails and messages a short morning summary of what it found and what it did.
What it does not do
- It does not send, reply to, or forward email.
- It does not permanently delete anything.
- It does not read or store the contents of messages beyond the metadata and snippet needed to
sort them.
- It does not sell, share, or transfer this data to any third party for advertising or any
other purpose. See the Privacy Policy.
Whose account it uses
One Google Account, belonging to the operator, with access granted to him through Google's
standard consent screen. Access can be withdrawn at any time from his Google Account's
third-party access page, which stops the assistant immediately.
